Orchha, literally meaning `Hidden` is an ancient medieval town which was founded in 16th century by the Bundela Rajput chieftain, Rudra Pratap. This stretch of land along the River Betwa in Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh India was an ideal site for the king`s capital. Marked by the unexampled temples, huge cenotaphs (chhatri), and striking forts, the capital of Bundela Kingdom has beautifully preserved the spirit of its illustrious past and breathes history in every detail. Those who are not fascinated by history, the medieval city do not disappoint them either. Encompassed by thick Dhak forest where every dawn is embraced by chirping of birds, where the shimmering holy river and the sighting of rare Indian Vultures atop the rooftops of magnanimous palaces and cenotaphs of Orchha add to the picturesque ambience, the destination appears like a sweet reverie. 20 km away from Jhansi and 175 km from Khajuraho, Orchha is also an ideal weekend getaway from Delhi, Kanpur and Bhopal.


Khajuraho

Hardly 3 hours drive from Orchha, Khajuraho is one of the biggest tourist attractions for meticulously carved figurines depicting the scenes and postures straight from Kamasutra. The erotic carvings that swathe Khajuraho`s three groups of World Heritage sites are among the supreme temple art in the world.

Jhansi

Globally famous for the valiant queen Rani Laxmi Bai and the cultural tourism, Jhansi- the gateway to Bundelkhand is a cherished town of great history and gallantry legends. Besides the imposing 17th century fort of Jhansi, there are many other compelling forts and palace in the city which is just 18 kilometres from the town Orchha.

Datia

An ancient little town 69 Km from Gwalior and 34 Km from Jhansi, Datia is known for its pilgrimage spots like Sidhapeeth, Buglamukhi Devi Temple, Gopeshwar Temple and Sonagiri, a scared Jain hill. Located next to Datia Lake is a famous seven-storied palace built by Raja Vir Singh Deo, which is one of the finest (example) of Bundela architecture and a visual delight for tourists.

Chanderi

With its grand monuments Chanderi, is a town of historical importance, wrapped in the blanket of greenery and is surrounded by beautiful hills Southwest of Betwa River. Chanderi occupies a special place for its weaving sphere for making finely textured fabrics of Silk & Cotton.

Garh Kundar

One of the picturesque sites Garh Kundar situated in Tikamgarh is 70 Kms away from Orchha. The place is for those who want to explore the rustic charm of Madhya Pradesh. Large sized courtyards, inscribed pillars found in the fort speak a lot about the rich culture of the fort.
